Innovyze Releases InfoSWMM Generation V14, Spearheading New Era in GIS-Centric Smart Wastewater and Stormwater Modeling

Featuring Many Key Innovative Improvements, New Release Gives Communities Groundbreaking Network Simulation Power and Full Compatibility with the Latest USEPA SWMM 5

Broomfield, Colorado, USA, August 11, 2015

In its ongoing quest to equip the wastewater industry with the world’s most comprehensive and innovative smart network modeling and management solutions, Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced the worldwide availability of the V14 Generation of its industry-leading InfoSWMM for ArcGIS (Esri, Redlands, CA).InfoSWMM V14 provides unique new capabilities and enhancements that comprise the most advanced approach to guiding and optimizing collection systems planning, design, operation and management.

A complete ArcGIS-centric urban drainage modeling solution, the full-featured InfoSWMM analysis and design program delivers the highest rate of return in the industry. All operations of a typical sewer system — from analysis and design to management functions such as water quality assessment, pollution prediction, sediment transport and deposition, urban flooding, real-time control, and record keeping — are addressed in a single, fully integrated geoengineering environment. The program’s powerful hydraulic and water quality computational engine is based on an enhanced version of the latest USEPA SWMM 5, which is certified by FEMA. These features and more deliver an enhanced modeling experience and greater realism of displayed results — advantages that translate to increased productivity, reduced costs, higher accuracy, better efficiency, and improved designs.

InfoSWMM also serves as a robust base platform for advanced modeling, operational, short-term and long range planning, capital planning, urban stormwater treatment and analysis, and analytics-driven asset management extensions. Some of these critical applications includeInfoSWMM 2D (two-dimensional surface flood modeling), SWMMLive (real-time urban drainage modeling), CapPlan (risk-based capital planning and asset performance modeling), InfoSWMM Sustain (optimal selection and placement of LIDs/BMPs), InfoSWMM SFEM(dynamic sewer flow estimation model), InfoMaster (GIS-centric analytics-driven asset management), and RDII Analyst (rainfall-dependent inflow and infiltration planning and analysis).

The release of InfoSWMM V14 extends previous generations’ capabilities with a number of new features, improvements, and groundbreaking innovations in geoengineering productivity and efficiency as well as an improved user experience. These advances greatly simplify, accelerate, and integrate urban drainage network engineering, helping wastewater and stormwater engineers develop better designs and operational improvements faster. Among the new enhancements are:
  • A new Modified Rational Method that reads IDF tables and allows user-defined time of concentration for each subcatchment.
  • New monthly adjustments for hydraulic conductivity used for rainfall infiltration and exfiltration from storage nodes and conduits.
  • A new feature that allows LID drains to send their outflows to a different node or subcatchment than the parent subcatchment in which they were placed.
  • A new option for conveyance system outfall nodes to send their outflows onto a subcatchment, to simulate irrigation or complex LID treatment options.
  • A new LID practice, Rooftop Disconnection, that allows users to explicitly model roof runoff with an optional limit on the flow capacity of downspouts.
  • A new optional soil layer to Permeable Pavement or Porous Pavement LID’s, enabling modeling of a sand filter or bedding layer beneath the pavement.
  • Several new built-in variable names for use in custom groundwater flow equations for porosity, unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, infiltration rate and percolation rate.
  • A new Groundwater Summary table to report multiple groundwater statistics for each subcatchment with groundwater definitions.
  • Minimum Variable Time Step which limits the smallest time step that can be computed under variable time stepping for dynamic wave flow routing. In previous releases this figure was fixed at 0.5 seconds, which remains the default. The smallest value now available is 0.001 sec.
  • An improved Node Depth Summary report table that shows the maximum depth recorded at the Reporting Time Step so it can be compared to the maximum depth attained over all routing time steps, also shown in the table.
  • A new variable “Node Volume” added to the Rule Control premises.
  • A new extension on Rule Control premises that allows comparison of a node or link variable at two different locations (e.g. IF NODE 123 HEAD > NODE 456 HEAD).
“Our priorities have always been to advance the frontiers of smart network modeling technology and support our customers’ successes by helping them be more productive, innovative and competitive — imperative in today’s economy,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, President, COO and Chief Technical Officer of Innovyze. “This major InfoSWMM release delivers on our promise to equip our customers with the ultimate ArcGIS-centric decision support tool for sewer collection and urban drainage systems. Like its predecessors, InfoSWMM V14 sets a new standard for quality and high-performance network modeling and management with unrivaled power and speed, cutting-edge capabilities, rich functionality and ease of use. From top to bottom, it is designed for record modeling performance that enables users to increase their productivity and quality while achieving their engineering, sustainability and business goals. 2014 - That was fun - an update of an announcement from the past.  The original is on our website. I changed my name from Bob to Robert, the company name from MWHSoft to Innovyze and list my my actual job or jobs I have been doing at @Innovyze from 2008.  I left the title alone - sometimes it is best to have a goal in life and trying to achieve the title of the announcement is something I would like to approach in my remaining Innovyze years.  I probably will not reach it but I appreciate the mastery of the Paul Boulos announcements - he writes the most creative and wonderful press releases. You should subscribe to them from www.innovyze.com if you want to read about the future of water, sewer and stormwater.  A final mention of Alight Tsai who manages http://www.innovyze.com/ and is always helpful with great images for our software and help files.  I would be remiss if I did not mention our great R/D product development teams in Monrovia and Wallingford. I am proud to be a small part of the Monrovia team.  Other history mentions about SWMM3/4/5 in my past can be found here http://www.swmm5.net/2012/05/my-history-with-various-versions-of.html

How to Diagnose a SWMLive Model using InfoSWMM

Introduction to Running SWMMLive from @Innovyze

Introduction to Running SWMMLive from @Innovyze

A new product from Innovyze is SWMMLive which combines our InfoSWMM or H2OMap SWMM engine with the power and features of ICMLive and the ICM Interface.  This will be a continuation of my blogs on SWMMLive and for this blog we will discuss the basics of getting an InfoSWMM model to run in SWMMLive.   The 1st step is to use the Add On extension in InfoSWMM and H2OMap SWMM from the tools menu (Figure 1).  This will start the SWMMLive Manager where you can export your InfoSWMM or H2OMap  SWMM model to SWMMlive (which is a different Innovyze product) and Diagnose the SWMMLive Model if needed (Figure 2).    Once you have exported the InfoSWMM model then you can import the model to SWMMLive as the network in the Live Group of your Master Group (Bullet 1 in Figure 3).   You run the model using the ICM like Run Manager but using the InfoSWMM engine (currently based on SWMM 5.0.022) as you can see in Bullet 2 of Figure 3.    You can run multiple scenarios in a run (Bullet 3 in Figure 3) along with many of the ICMLive features such as Ground Tin's,  Queries,  Spatial Databases and Selection lists (Bullet 4 in Figure 3).   Once you run the model you can use the ICM tools to select (Bullet 5),  Select (Bullet 6) and View the Graphs or Grid Views (Bullet 7).  In the next blogs we will show how to set up Alerts and Other More Advanced Features.

Figure 1  SWMMLIve is an Add On Extension to H2OMap SWMM and InfoSWMM

Figure 2.   In InfoSWMM and H2oMap SWMM you export a file to SWMMLIVE using the SWMMLive Manager

H2OMap SWMM Interface to SWMMLive

H2OMap SWMM has a new interface to SWMMLive program http://www.innovyze.com/products/swmmlive/ by @Innovyze

The AddOn to H2OMap SWMM allows the user to export their current  H2oMap SWMM model to the SWMM Engine of SWMMLive.

1.       You call the AddOn using the Tools AddOn Extension Manager command
2.       The engine data (in SWMM 5 format) is exported to SWMMLive using the Export Model to SWMMLive
3.       You can graph the result of the SWMMLive model using the Diagnose SWMMLive Model Tab

Innovyze Releases SWMMLive: Real-Time Stormwater, Wastewater and Watershed Modeling

Innovyze Releases SWMMLive: Real-Time Stormwater, Wastewater and Watershed Modeling

Revolutionary New Product Equips Wastewater Utilities with Unprecedented Capabilities for Decision-Making and Real-Time Control Optimization

Broomfield, Colorado, USA, December 17, 2013

Redrawing the boundaries of collection system modeling, Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced the worldwide release of SWMMLive for real-time operational forecasting and management of urban drainage systems. The pioneering release provides wastewater utilities timely, accurate and reliable forecasts of what will happen within a catchment, based on past and current observations of a multitude of parameters along with future rainfall predictions. It also helps them identify flood-vulnerable assets and formulate sound remediation/mitigation strategies.

The product combines the comprehensive urban drainage modeling capabilities of InfoSWMM (and H2OMAP SWMM) with sophisticated real-time operational forecasting, early warning, and emergency management. This debut reflects Innovyze’s vanguard position in the wastewater industry and its ongoing commitment to delivering pioneering smart water solutions that enhance the safety, reliability and sustainability of the world’s hydraulic infrastructure.

Advances in computer simulation and hardware have made real-time operation of stormwater, wastewater and combined systems a reality.SWMMLive allows both large and small utilities to manage their collection systems more efficiently and effectively than ever before. This powerful risk assessment and real-time decision making tool enables managers and operators to consider the influence of a full range of catchment factors in three key areas: management of flooding and reduction of unregulated discharges; optimization of storage, green alternatives and existing infrastructure, leading to savings on capital works; and optimization of pumps to lower energy costs and reduce CO2 emissions.

SWMMLive can directly import any InfoSWMM or H2OMAP SWMM project and is designed to work automatically. Once a system is configured, real-time data is continually and automatically harvested and quality checked. This data can be defined by a number of parameters, including observed and forecasted radar rainfall, online water quality measurements, and ancillary structure and pump operation time series. Simulations are carried out automatically at a user-defined frequency using the full hydrodynamic and functional capabilities of InfoSWMM (and H2OMAP SWMM), including water quality assessment, pollution prediction, urban flooding, green LID and BMP alternatives, and real-time control. Simulation frequency can change in response to user-defined conditions. For example, increased rainfall intensity can trigger a reduction in the interval between simulations.

Warnings or alerts triggered during the forecast period are instantly displayed via the rich SWMMLive user interface, allowing system operators to see at a glance which areas need attention and what actionable options might be taken. Comparison alerts can be used to highlight differences between observed and modeled results, enabling users to refine their models — creating unprecedented confidence in simulation results.

SWMMLive also allows operators to perform additional simulations that explore alternative real time control scenarios — such as the impact of switching on a pump earlier than planned — and quickly seeing the effect of these changes on the system. The wide range of capabilities in SWMMLive allow it to be used as a key tool in the decision making process, enabling operators to take action to avoid system issues, release timely alerts, and quickly deploy response teams if necessary.
“Real-time urban drainage modeling is an invaluable tool for wastewater utility planning, engineering and water quality departments,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, F.ASCE, President, COO and Chief Operating Officer of Innovyze. “However, translating these benefits to real-time operations has proven difficult. With SWMMLive, Innovyze has changed the paradigm for how and where urban drainage models can be applied. This milestone solution will help wastewater utilities worldwide harness the power of real-time data, scenario planning, and predictive modeling to transform the operation and management of their collection systems and anticipate and mitigate the effects of extreme weather-related events. It is the ultimate decision support system for operating and sustaining safe, reliable and efficient infrastructures while effectively protecting public health and our waterways.”
